Carolina Nature Coaliton joined Faith Connection to celebrate Earth Day on April 26th at Martin Marietta Park in New Bern. This year, the celebration theme was Good Dirt!

Adopting the theme, Good Dirt!, CNC offered a very special treat for all the children. Board member, Karen Plaster, prepared small biodegradable cups filled with crushed dark chocolate cookies representing rich soil. She topped each cup of "dirt" with a worm (gummy worm). When offered the cup of "dirt", the children bravely joined in the fun, many coming back for more. Some parents also enjoyed their cup of "Good Dirt!

This year, as the non business organization, Carolina Nature Coalition was chosen to be honored with the "Environmental Hero" award from Stewards of the Earth. President, Michael Schachter accepted the award on behalf of CNC.

The attendees left the event with a greater understanding of the fragility of our environment and what we need to do to protect our planet.
